Incontrast to the processes flaming and corona treatment of plastics, nearly allplastic surfaces can be pre-treated with fluorine. Since the activation takesplace due to the reaction of the fluorine with the plastic, the activation canbe controlled and reproduced easily via the fluorine concentration. Sincetreatment takes place at close to normal pressure, the fluorination alsoreaches deeper material layers. The pre-treatment effect is thereforelong-lasting. The concentration of active species is very well balanced: on theone hand it is high enough to achieve an excellent activation effect, whilst onthe other hand it is too low to damage the surface. The treatment will improvethe quality of coating, adhesive and printing for vehicle components.
